IPL for Skin Treatment

IPL doesn't just improve the overall appearance of skin.

It can also perform targeted treatments against a wide range of skin conditions:

Fine lines and wrinkles

Photorejuvenation stimulates elastin and collagen production, helping to smooth out skin.

What to expect: The standard recommendation for photorejuvenation facials is one treatment every 3-4 weeks per decade of life - that is, 6 treatments for a 60-year-old and 4 for a 40-year-old. The number of treatments may vary depending on how much sun damage one has developed. Some clients love the results so much that they opt to have a photofacial once every month or two, while others complete the initial series and come in for a touch-up every 6-12 months.

Rosacea

This IPL treatment targets the hemoglobin within skin, controlling redness by reducing the overall appearance of tiny blood vessels or capillaries.

What to expect: Treatments are conducted every 3 weeks as necessary. The goal is to heat up the tiny blood vessels so that the blood coagulates; if the vessel collapses for long enough, it will shrink and be absorbed into the lymph system. This can take up to 6 weeks to occur. It is advised to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and any other chemicals that may thin the blood for a week before starting this treatment. Avoid alcohol and exercise for 2 hours after treatment.

Tone and Textural Changes

Similarly to fine lines and wrinkles, photorejuvenation can improve skin tone and texture by stimulating collagen and elastin at the dermal level.

Dark Spot Lightening

By targeting melanin, IPL can lighten dark areas of the skin, such as age spots and freckles.  Over a period of two weeks, either the dark spots will lighten immediately, or the spots may turn very dark and crust over. These dark spots will then flake off, revealing new skin and a lighter color.

Some spots can be very stubborn and need multiple treatments. The age of the spots, the depth, and the etiology will determine this. Many spots will be visibly lighter after just one treatment.

Occassionally, some spots will not improve.  Treatment results may vary.

Acne

This treatment combines a bacteria-targeting blue light with a red light that stimulates the dermis, filling in fine acne scars and lightening post-inflammatory color changes.

What to expect: Acne treatments are scheduled once a week for up to 6 weeks. A series of 4-6 are usually needed. It is also very important that acne clients do "at-home" care to prevent new acne breakouts.
