Photorejuvenation

What to expect from your IPL photofacial

What is photorejuvenation?

Achieving a clear complexion can be challenging, even with a diligent skincare routine. Photorejuvenation (also called a "photofacial") is an IPL procedure that stimulates collagen and elastin at the dermal level, inducing your skin to heal without surgery or abrasive procedures.

Photorejuvenation is a minimally invasive procedure with little recovery time and few side effects, making it a popular choice for improving skin health and appearance.

Individuals with lighter skin tones typically experience the best results.

Your unique needs will be evaluated during a personalized consultation to ensure suitability.  Tanned skin cannot safely receive photorejuvenation treatments.

Photorejuvenation is particularly effective for:

  • Acne scars
  • Age spots and sunspots
  • Blotchiness
  • Broken capillaries
  • Brown or dark spots
  • Excessive flushing
  • Freckles
  • Large pores
  • Rosacea
  • Skin texture issues
  • Spider veins
  • Sun damage
  • Stretch marks

The same technique can also be used to remove unwanted hair.

Before your IPL treatment

To ensure a safe treatment, avoid tanning beds, sun exposure, and abrasive skin treatments (such as glycolic acid products) in the weeks leading up to your appointment.  Stop using skincare products with harsh chemicals (such as retinoids and toners) at least 3 days before your treatment.

IPL treatments have no recovery time, but please don't plan any major events for several days after your first treatment - I want to make sure your skin has no negative reactions.

On the day of treatment

Your IPL Photofacial will begin with a brief pre-treatment consultation. Cooling gel will be applied to the treatment area for added comfort. The IPL device will then be used to deliver pulses of light to the targeted area. Patients typically experience a quick sensation of heat, like a rubber-band snap.

After the treatment, cool compresses will be applied, and you’ll receive detailed guidance on sun protection and post-care to ensure a quick recovery and the best outcome.

After your IPL treatment

Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.

Avoid direct sun exposure for a minimum of a week after each treatment - optimally, throughout the process.  (Make sure to apply sunblock when going out, and every 3 hours of exposure!)  Do not expose the treatment area to excessive heat, hot water, or harsh skincare products.

Some individuals may notice immediate results, while optimal outcomes usually develop in the days and weeks following the treatment as your skin rejuvenates.  A certain amount of redness, or possibly flaking or crusting of the skin, is normal; cool compresses should be applied to hot or itchy skin, and Tylenol is OK for any discomfort.  Please notify me if you experience any unusual side effects.

An IPL treatment usually costs:

Face, neck, and chest: $550

Neck: $200

Chest: $250

Hands: $150, or $50 as an add-on

Photorejuvenation can be performed on most areas of the body, including the legs, arms, bikini and back.

Individual results may vary.
